Viareggio is located in upper Tuscany, in a strategic location for those thinking of the Perfect Vacation, since its position allows to visit the whole region in short daily trips. A little further north, a half-hour ferry ride or an hour's drive will take you to the Cinque Terre, with rocky coastlines and crystal-clear waters. Continuing south instead, connected to Viareggio, is Torre del Lago Puccini, with the historic residence of Maestro Giacomo Puccini and the Teatro Lirico, which stands right on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli, where the International Puccini Festival is held every summer. Several sailing or rowing schools can be found on the lake.
